The Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior
The Gate Church of the Transfiguration and the Lopukhin Chambers were built in 1687–1688 in the Moscow Baroque style during the regency of Tsarevna Sophia Alekseyevna. The church is situated above the wide, triple-span Transfiguration Gates. This elegant five-domed church, adorned with light white-stone details, preserves a unique seven-tier iconostasis crafted by Karp Zolotaryov of the Ambassadorial Office's icon-painting workshop. Architectural historians suggest that architect Grigory Ustinov may have contributed to the construction of the Transfiguration Church. The Lopukhin Chambers are named after Peter I's first wife, Yevdokiya Fedorovna Lopukhina, who lived there from 1727 to 1731.
